Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best time of year to visit Europe?

Europe is a fantastic destination year-round, but the best time to visit depends on the type of experience you're looking for. Spring (April–June) and Fall (September–October) are often ideal thanks to mild weather, fewer crowds, and beautiful scenery.

Summer (July–August) is the most popular travel season, with long daylight hours, lively outdoor cafes, and festivals throughout cities like Rome, Barcelona, and Dubrovnik.

Winter travel also offers unique charm, especially with holiday markets and festive celebrations in places like London, Dublin, and Edinburgh. Myers Tours helps travelers choose the best time to visit depending on their destination and interests.

When traveling with a group, how do I access my airline ticket?

If Myers Tours is handling your airline reservation, we will advise your flight details once your flights are confirmed, Your passport will serve as your ticket. Please present your passport to the ticket agent when you arrive to the airport.

Is Europe easy to get around if I have mobility limitations or I am handicapped?

Many parts of Europe are becoming increasingly accessible, especially in major cities. Public transportation systems, museums, and many hotels now offer accessible entrances, elevators, and accommodations.

However, because Europe is rich in history, some destinations feature cobblestone streets, hills, and historic buildings that may present challenges. Cities such as Florence, Dubrovnik, and Edinburgh have older areas that require some planning.

Myers Tours works with trusted local partners to help ensure accessible transportation, accommodations, and sightseeing options whenever possible so every traveler can enjoy the journey comfortably.

Do I need a visa or travel authorization to visit Europe, the United Kingdom, or Ireland?

Many European destinations now require a simple online travel authorization before arrival. These are not traditional visas, but short online applications designed to pre-screen travelers.

United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland)

Travelers from the United States visiting the United Kingdom — including London, Edinburgh, and other destinations in England, Scotland, and Wales — must now apply for the UK Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before traveling.

Key details:

  • Cost: Approximately $20 USD per traveler

  • Validity: Valid for multiple visits over 2 years or until your passport expires

  • Stay length: Up to 6 months per visit for tourism or business

  • How to apply: Online or through the official UK ETA mobile app

  • Approval time: Often within minutes, but allow up to 3 days for processing

Your ETA is digitally linked to your passport, and airlines will verify it before allowing you to board your flight.

Ireland

Travelers visiting Ireland, including cities like Dublin, Galway, or Cork, do NOT currently need a travel authorization or visa if they are U.S. citizens visiting for tourism.

Visitors can typically stay up to 90 days for tourism without applying in advance.

Schengen Area Countries (Most of Europe)

Starting soon, travelers visiting many European countries will need to apply for the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) before arrival.

This system will apply to popular destinations including:

  • Italy

  • Spain

  • Portugal

  • France

  • Germany

  • Croatia

  • and most other countries in the Schengen Area

Key ETIAS details (expected):

  • Cost: About $8 USD

  • Validity: 3 years or until passport expiration

  • Application: Simple online form before travel

  • Approval time: Usually within minutes or a few days

Good news: These travel authorizations are quick to obtain and designed to make border entry smoother.

Myers Tours always keeps travelers informed of current entry requirements and will provide guidance before departure, ensuring that all documentation is in place for a stress-free trip.  Travelers are responsible for obtaining their travel authorizations for countries they plan to visit.

How long must my passport be valid to travel to Europe?

Most European countries require that your passport be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates. Additionally, if you are visiting countries within the Schengen Area, your passport must generally be valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure from Europe and must have been issued within the last 10 years.

Because entry rules can vary slightly by country, Myers Tours recommends checking your passport expiration date well in advance. If your passport is close to expiring, it’s best to renew it before booking your trip to avoid any issues when boarding your flight or entering Europe.

Should I purchase trip insurance?

Yes, we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance for any international trip. Travel insurance can help protect you financially if unexpected situations arise, such as:

  • Trip cancellations or interruptions

  • Medical emergencies while traveling

  • Lost or delayed luggage

  • Flight delays or missed connections

For longer international trips to destinations such as Italy, Croatia, Spain, Portugal, or Ireland, travel insurance provides peace of mind and protection for your investment.

For your convenience, Myers Tours recommends our trusted travel insurance partner. Learn more at www.myerstours.com/tripinsurance.

How far in advance should I book a European tour?

For the best availability and pricing, we recommend booking your European tour 6–12 months in advance. Popular destinations such as Rome, Barcelona, Dublin, and Lisbon often fill up quickly—especially during the busy spring and summer travel seasons.

Booking early allows you to:

  • Secure preferred flights and hotel accommodations

  • Lock in tour availability

  • Take advantage of early booking rates

Group tours and specialty experiences often have limited space, so reserving early ensures you won’t miss out.

What should I pack for a trip to Europe?

Packing for Europe depends on the season and destinations you plan to visit, but a few essentials will make your trip much more comfortable.

Recommended items include:

  • Comfortable walking shoes (Europe often involves a lot of walking)

  • Layered clothing for changing weather

  • A lightweight rain jacket or umbrella

  • Power adapters for European outlets

  • A small day bag for sightseeing

  • Copies of important travel documents

Travelers visiting cities like Florence, Edinburgh, or coastal destinations such as Amalfi Coast should expect plenty of walking on historic streets and cobblestones, so comfortable footwear is especially important.
